Midwestern Governors Profile Project LIBERTY

MGA The Midwestern Governor's Association has been publishing a series of "Energy Success Stories" about a variety of alternative energy projects underway in the Midwest. For the month of July, their success story was Project LIBERTY. You can read it on their web site (pdf).

Harvesting corn cobs in Texas

In our work to refine the most efficient methods for harvesting corn cobs, POET just completed a two-and-a-half week harvest in South Texas. You can read the release here. The work done there was to prepare for this fall's harvest when farmer's near Emmetsburg, Iowa will harvest as much as 25,000 acres of cobs.

The logistics of feedstock collection is one piece of the cellulosic ethanol puzzle that is often overlooked. Supplying the cellulosic ethanol production facility in Emmetsburg will require a few hundred thousand acres of cobs so POET is paying a lot of attention to harvest, transportation and storage. POET Biomass was recently formed for just this purpose.
